A few trips during good weather soon revealed that the misfiring when hot is getting worse - to the point of being undriveable! Luckily, Chris M-C snr correctly diagnosed "heat soak" into the coil system, and a new coil and set of HT leads seems to have worked wonders.
The next trial and tribulation was taking Stephanie for a longer drive, and having the rear bumper drop off its fixing on the right hand side, while buzzing along a dual carriageway. Deadful grinding noise! Luckily I was able to pull in almost immediately into a layby, and tie up the bumper. Its suffered a little wear on the bottom edge, and the stainless steel spacer tube disappeared into the road side somewhere. I'll need to source a replacement, and make sure everything is really tightened up!
I'm not sure Stephanie is keen to have any more trips ...
