Since the last post, I have had a full service carried out by a mechanic in Solihull, the father of one of the builders who made our house in 2017. Both father and son are called Chris Morgan-Cettler, which seems an appropriate name for someone willing to service Morgans. Chris (senior) gave it a really thorough going over, replacing filters (oil, air, petrol), servicing front and rear brakes, freeing up the clutch, greasing suspension, axles and driveshaft, and relocating the exhaust which was almost touching the tyre. The car is running so much better now, and a pleasure to drive (at last!). It still seems to have a residual cut-out problem when the engine is warm, but what with Covid lockdown, I haven't really been able to do long enough trips to really explore the issue. The next thing I want to check is whether the idle control valve is sticking - apparently they get dirty from grit and oil in the air flow. Anyway, that's a job for later on.
After a final 2020 run with the roof down, in bright sunlight, and cold winds, I've moved the car into my workshop in preparation for starting a bit more serious work ont the rusty wings. There's not much room, but with the main workshop next door, I should be OK. The main issue I can see is not having much room at the rear to get the hydraulic jack in place.
